'DWTS' host: Lochte protesters rushing stage was 'unnerving'

The premiere of Dancing with the Stars' most exciting moment wasn't from a great cha-cha or a surprising jive - it was an onstage ambush.

The men wore T-shirts that featured Lochte's name crossed out, according to Entertainment Weekly. After a commerical break, he recovered enough to remain on camera and receive his critiques, but even after the show, he was still feeling hurt by the incident. It's hard to hear, but it sounded like multiple people chanting "We hate Lochte!"

While what exactly happened wasn't immediately clear to viewers at home, those in attendance, including former DWTS contestant Danica McKellar, later posted about the incident on social media.

"Hey, back off", Ms. Inaba said as the altercation was occurring off-screen. "Off! Off!" she yelled, gesturing for the intruders to get offstage.

Lochte joined Season 23 just days after a controversial performance in the Rio Summer Olympics.

Police were called to CBS studios in Los Angeles after the men were tackled by security guards during the live broadcast of the show as they ran onto the dance floor where the 32-year-old Lochte had just finished his routine with partner Cheryl Burke.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — "Dancing with the Stars" host Tom Bergeron says everyone was shocked when two men rushed the stage to protest Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte after his performance on the ABC reality competition.

His story changed and Rio police subsequently alleged the Americans had not been robbed at all, but had vandalized a gas station's bathroom. United States team officials banned Mr. Lochte for 10 months, requiring him to forfeit $100,000 in bonuses and miss the 2017 world championships.

Popular Dancing With the Stars pro Derek Hough admitted that he got a little "defensive" when the whole incident went down.
