Iran Rejects US Allegations as Baseless, Provocative

The nation maintains that it did not violate the U.N. resolution and Ali Akbar Velayati, a top adviser to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said "threatening Iran is useless".

Global crude prices rose on Wednesday after US National Security Advisor Michael Flynn said Washington is putting Tehran "on notice" in response to an Iranian missile test.

US President Donald Trump says "nothing is off the table" in terms of a response to Iran's ballistic missile test. Flynn's comments at the White House also included a reference to a suicide attack Monday in which a Saudi Naval frigate in the Red Sear was rammed by Houthi militants whom he claimed were "Iran-supported". In his tweet, Trump misstates both the amount of money and wrongly suggests the USA cut Iran a check.

The US confirmed that a medium-range missile was launched Sunday and White House officials said it was a type that was "inherently capable" of being used to launch a nuclear weapon.

Criticizing the missile test more thoughtfully would have been effective because the average Iranian does not support Iranian policy, in Vatanka's view.

The historic agreement offered Iran sanctions relief in exchange for greater restrictions on its nuclear energy program.

"Instead of being thankful to the United States for these agreements, Iran is now feeling emboldened", he said.

Three senior US officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said a range of options, including economic sanctions, was being considered and that a broad review was being conducted of the USA posture toward Iran.

FYI, Trump chimed in on Twitter this morning to repeat the "ON NOTICE" rhetoric. Trump is contemplating "a whole range of options", including harsher economic sanctions, an administration official said.

He added: "Iran has been formally PUT ON NOTICE for firing a ballistic missile". The bigger question is whether the United States really has very many friends and allies in that region or anywhere else.

In a follow-up tweet, Trump assailed former president Barack Obama for backing the nuclear deal with Iran, claiming the sanctions relief helped Iran as its economy was being squeezed by worldwide pressures and isolation.

The warning was an early manifestation of Mr Trump's promise of a tougher American approach to Iran.

Iran says it's in compliance because the missile tested isn't created to carry a nuclear weapon and it has already committed to suspending its nuclear program as part of the 2015 accord.

On Wednesday Iranian Defence Minister Hossein Dehghan stood by their missile test.

After Iran test-fired a ballistic missile, the world watched to see how President Trump, who has been very critical of Iran and the Iranian nuclear deal, would respond.
