Russian athlete named in WADA report stripped of gold medal

On Friday, Savinov-Farnosova was stripped of her title and banned for four years for doping offences.

The 31-year-old won the gold medal in the 800m at London 2012 and also took the golds at the World Championships in 2011 and the World Indoor Championships in 2010.

Savinova joins a long list of Russian athletes who have been punished for their part in the country's state-sponsored doping programme.

That will include the Olympic and world titles a silver medal from the Moscow world championships and a gold medal from the 2010 European championships.

Savinova was caught admitting to injecting banned substance testosterone and taking oxandrolone in undercover footage filmed by whistleblower Yuliya Stepanova back in 2014.

In a press release, CAS said there was "clear evidence" Savinova had been doping from July 2010, just before the European Championships, to the 2013 World Championships in August.

Following further evidence of widespread drug use, the Russian track team was suspended from all worldwide competitions in November 2015 and missed last year's Olympics.

The ruling also means Osaka 2007 world champion, Janeth Jepkosgei will also be upgraded to Daegu 2011 silver after the same Russian athlete beat the Kenyan and South Africa's Caster Semenya to the top medal.

The CAS acted as the main tribunal in the case as the Russian athletics federation is suspended by the world body, the International Association of Athletics Federations because of its doping controversy.

On Tuesday, the Iaaf council unanimously upheld Russia's suspension.
