China accuses India of violating Tibet commitments, warns of actions

China's official think-tanks countered the Dalai Lama's assertion that Chinese government can not decide about his successor, saying the next highest monk of Tibetan Buddhism must have the endorsement of Beijing.

Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Lu Kang said Wednesday that bilateral ties will suffer after Indian officials hosted the 81-year old monk in disputed territory and they and the Dalai Lama "indulged in provocative political statements".

Lu said China will take "further action" to safeguard its sovereignty.

"No matter what the Indian government has arranged in disputed areas, and no matter what the Dalai Lama's speech in Arunachal Pradesh, it will never change the fact that there is a great controversy in eastern part of the Sino-Indian border, nor it will change China?s position on this issue", it said. "The Indian side also has commitments on Tibet related issues, we hope Indian side will bear in mind the fundamental interests of the two countries and two peoples, safeguard political foundation of bilateral relations and and do not take any provocative actions".

China is opposed to the Dalai Lama's visit to Arunachal Pradesh, particularly Tawang, which it considers as Southern Tibet.

Lu said, "The Dalai Lama has had a disgraceful performance on the boundary question". Although the Ministry of External Affairs insisted "no additional colour should be ascribed to the Dalai Lama's religious and spiritual activities", it knew well how it would be received in China. We have already reached important consensus on the boundary question through dialogue and consultation.

The dispute covers the 3,488-km Line of Actual Control.

In remarks bound to anger China, the Indian chief minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Pema Khandu, told Reuters on April 5 that he regarded the land on the other side of the border as Tibet, not China.

"Crossing of the Frontiers" which documents Dalai Lama's exile route from Tibet to India, published by Losel Nyinje Charitable Society and Monyul Social Welfare Association was also released by the spiritual leader.

China has repeatedly denounced the 1989 Nobel Peace laureate's trip to Arunachal Pradesh state - a sensitive border region administered by New Delhi, but claimed by Beijing as "South Tibet".

"Under India's illegal rule, the residents of Southern Tibet live hard lives, face various kinds of discrimination, and look forward to returning to China", the official China Daily said in an opinion piece on Wednesday (12 April). He also attacked the Chinese government on Tibet-related issues and advocated political view on splitting China.

He has visited Arunachal Pradesh six times in the last eight years.

Dalai Lama further said that peace in post World War II is built on fear.
