Samsung Galaxy S8 to launch without Bixby voice assistant

The English-language version of a voice-activated "virtual assistant" that is a major feature of Samsung Electronics Co.'s newest flagship device won't be ready to go when the Galaxy S8 smartphone arrives in USA stores next week, according to people familiar with the matter.

After its much ballyhooed presentation of the new Samsung Galaxy S8 and its Bixby smart assistant, Samsung is delaying the best part of Bixby - voice control.

According to Samsung, Bixby Voice won't be available on the Galaxy S8 until later this Spring.

SAMSUNG has ditched one of its flagship smartphone's most anticipated features just days ahead of its release date. If this doesn't work properly, then the next announcements made by Samsung won't be given any importance.

The company had earlier said Bixby's function would integrate with Samsung's native apps such as camera, contacts, Gallery, Messages, settings and support more apps from Samsung as well as third-party apps in future.

Preorders for the recently announced Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ have begun and phones are expected to be in the hands of customers starting April 21. Home is essentially a pane of widgets and Reminder, as the name suggests, lets you set reminders.

The company believes it could completely change the way consumers interact with their devices, and has even equipped the S8 with a physical Bixby button.

The partnership with Westpac adds to Samsung's existing partnerships with Citibank for MasterCard and Visa credit card holders as well as American Express issued credit cards. We unfortunately don't know exactly why Bixby Voice is taking longer than the other Bixby-related features at this time. It's also probably a bummer for Samsung, who would like those new owners to try out Bixby Voice and get acclimated to using it regularly.
