Soundgarden frontman Cornell's funeral will be Friday in LA

Soundgarden was the scheduled headliner for Pointfest on Saturday in Maryland Heights, Missouri. Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron was also in the group, and would go on to join Pearl Jam in the late 1990s.

In 1984, he formed the band Soundgarden, which was influential in the grunge-rock movement of the early 1990s.

However, a full autopsy was yet to be done. They broke down the door and found Cornell unresponsive on the bathroom floor in his room.

Detroit police spokesman Micheal Woody would not confirm any details, but said "basic things" discovered at the scene led investigators immediately to suspect suicide. The Detroit News cited Freeman in a similar report.

It is understood that the singer's body was flown yesterday to California from Detroit, where he died.

Cornell's death has shocked the music world, with peers ranging from Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page to Sir Elton John to Guns 'N Roses guitarist Slash all taking to social media to pay their respects.

Pearl Jam paid tribute to Cornell posting a photo of the late singer and his dog on their Facebook page. She expects some information to be released about the results later in the day.

Chris Cornell was 52 years old. Cornell passed away Wednesday evening (May 17) following a Soundgarden gig at The Fox Theatre in Detroit. Vicky told Kirsten that Cornell repeated, 'I am just exhausted, ' before hanging up the phone, the report says.

The funeral is slated to take place in Los Angeles, and Chris Cornell will be interred at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery.

After the show ended, Cornell headed back to the MGM Grand hotel.

Chris Cornell's wife, Vicky, raised the alarm.

The Wayne County Medical Examiner's office will make an official determination about the cause of death.
