Trump due on Egypt visit to mend soured ties under Obama

President Trump, wrapping up a visit to Saudi Arabia, had a cordial exchange on Sunday with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Sisi, the two leaders' second encounter in little over a month.

Trump responded "I agree!" drawing chuckles from aides present in the room.

The comments came after Sisi, through a translator, praised Trump, saying he has a "unique personality" and is "capable of the impossible". "We will absolutely be putting that on the list very soon", Trump said in a statement following his meeting with the Egyptian president in Riyadh, MENA reported.

Sisi, a former general, has been sharply criticized by human rights groups and many Western governments over his government's jailing of thousands of opponents and other repressive policies.

Egypt has weathered a series of attacks by Islamic State extremists on security forces and Christians, including twin bombings in Coptic Christian churches on Palm Sunday.

El-Sisi is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with a number of leaders and officials who will be participating in the summits, in order to reinforce relations and discuss potential opportunities for cooperation at various levels, said the spokesman.

"Trump confirmed his intention to visit Cairo at the earliest chance, pointing out the importance of continued coordination between the two countries on issues of common interest", the statement read.

Obama did not invite Sisi for a visit and even temporarily suspended US aid to the Arabic country citing USA concerns about human rights situation in Egypt.

Egypt is also keen to have Western companies invest in the country, to prop up it dire economy.
