Bali deports Australian after 12-year drug saga

SCHAPELLE Corby continues to shy away from the media but has no reservations about Instagram, posting a selfie with sister Mercedes on her new account - which has already attracted more than 40,000 followers.

Dozens of police and media and surrounded Corby as she was bundled out the gate of her home in Kuta and shoved into a waiting black auto with her sister Mercedes.

The 39-year-old, who was arrested in 2004 at Bali airport, was bundled into a auto with tinted windows and sped off in a convoy that included armoured vehicles through narrow streets as curious onlookers gawped at the spectacle.

Corby, now 39, was holed up in her Bali villa for weeks ahead of her deportation, as media crews gathered outside hoping to catch sight of Australia's most infamous convicted drug smuggler.

Ms Corby then proceeded to share selfies from inside the black Toyota SUV that transported her and her sister Mercedes from her Kuta villa to the airport, as well as snap of her parole paper work.

She was sentenced to 20 years jail, but served only nine behind bars, after being granted remissions and had five years shaved off her sentence by former Indonesian president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

Her sister Mercedes lives on the Gold Coast, while her mother lives in Loganlea, south of Brisbane.

"When she gets here and settles in, we'll just have to make sure we get her out and about".

Corby will find it odd being back in Australia after such a long period spent in an Indonesian prison.

"We appreciate Schapelle Corby's concern about William's disappearance and using this media opportunity to increase awareness that William is still missing", Where's William? campaign director Clare Collins said.

It took her about 30 minutes to disembark and clear security before she was whisked into a vehicle on her way to her mother's home.

The Indonesia-Australia relationship was heated up in 2016 after the country executed the convicted drug traffickers Myuran Sukumaran and Andrew Chan.

Corby has packed her bags but people will still be watching. "I don't bring it up with her because it's not a nice subject", she told the publication. "We'll be trying to get her back into the swing of things so she feels confident".

Police Chief Wayan Sumara said Schapelle is not receiving special treatment, however extra police will be deployed for her departure.

His reasoning is that Corby's departure must not be allowed to disrupt society in Bali.

Mr Widiada said four police cars would escort Corby from her home to the parole board and then to the airport.
