Japan's NSA urges China to play bigger role in restraining North Korea

Japan's NSA urges China to play bigger role in restraining North Korea

The worldwide community has intensified pressure on the defiant North and the leaders of Group of Seven (G-7) member countries during a meeting in Italy last week urged Pyongyang to "fully comply with all UNSC resolutions and abandon all nuclear and ballistic missile programmes".

Shotaro Yachi, head of the secretariat of the Japanese government's National Security Council, on Monday called on China to play a bigger role in addressing North Korea's missile launches, Japan's Jiji Press reported.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe told reporters that "North Korea's provocation by ignoring repeated warnings from the global society is absolutely unacceptable".

Tensions have heightened between Washington and Pyongyang in recent months amid growing concerns about North Korea's rapidly advancing nuclear and missile programs. "North Korea has shown great disrespect for their neighbor, China, by shooting off yet another ballistic missile. but China is trying hard!"

Mr Trump says he is not ruling out future military action against North Korea, while also expressing his openness to a meeting with Mr Kim.

Outside analysts believe North Korea may be able to arm some of its shorter-range missiles with nuclear warheads, though the exact state of the North's secretive weapons program is unknown.

The U.S. Missile Defense Agency, the U.S. Air Force's 30th Space Wing and U.S. Northern Command are conducting the test, he said.

The minister also said analysis of images released by the North Korean state agency showed a launch pad and a rocket with a warhead and wings that can be controlled.

The est comes amid heightened tensions between the US and Pyongyang over North Korea's continued provocations.

Experts said Japan and the US could work together on cyber and missile action against North Korea, which could include shooting down North Korea's future test missiles.

Even if successful, the $244 million test will not confirm the U.S.is capable of defending itself against an intercontinental-range missile fired by North Korea. "This regime is a threat to the region, to Japan, to South Korea, and in the event of war, they would bring danger to China and to Russian Federation, as well".

However, the Chinese statement made no mention of North Korea.

North Korea achieved certain success in its ballistic missile technologies, Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said on Tuesday, commenting on the reports.

Withdrawing the shield "brooks not a moment's delay as its deployment would make South Korea the first target of strike by neighbouring nuclear powers", it said.
