How likely is the General Election to result in a hung parliament?

Britain's Prime Minister, and Leader of the Conservative party, Theresa May, speaks during a general election campaign event in Wolverhampton, central England, on May 30, 2017, as campaigning continues in the build up to the general election on June 8.

YouGov said May was still the most favoured choice for prime minister, though her 43 percent rating is the lowest it has ever been.

May said "the only poll that matters is the one that's going to take place on June 8", and insisted that only she had the plan to take Britain through Brexit.

May surprised nearly everyone in April when she called the snap election, saying she wanted to strengthen her hand for negotiations with the rest of the European Union about Britain's exit from the bloc.

Sterling has recovered after being hit by a projection suggesting the Conservatives could fail to win a majority in the general election.

European stocks rose for the first time in five days, led by gains in construction companies, as United Kingdom equities extended gains after a poll showed the Conservative Party was more likely to win next week's general election.

May's lead over Jeremy Corbyn is also down, at 13 points, from 17 points at the end of last week.

A good night for the Tories could see Mrs May's party pick up 345 seats - a net gain of 15 but still well short of the kind of majority she would have hoped to secure following the decision to go to the country.

The benchmark on Wednesday ended 0.1% lower after a choppy session, dictated by sharp swings in the pound GBPUSD, -0.0931% after a YouGov projection indicated the Conservative Party could lose its parliamentary majority in next week's election.

Jim Messina, a polling and data adviser for the Conservative Party who worked on Barack Obama's campaign, said the YouGov numbers were stupid and that he had spent the day laughing at them.

Moreover, Jeremy Corbyn's manifesto promise to scrap tuition fees from this Autumn has attracted a surge support from young people.

"Only one of us has the determination to deliver the will of the people and make Brexit happen". The party's apparently unassailable lead has shrunk.

May backed the "remain" campaign in the runup to last year's referendum on European Union membership, though she made few public appearances.

A YouGov poll of voters in London for the Evening Standard on Thursday put Labour on 50 per cent, compared to 33 per cent for the Conservatives.

YouGov's chief, Stephan Shakespeare, told the Times: "The data suggests that there is churn on all fronts, with the Conservatives, Labour and the Liberal Democrats both likely to both lose and gain seats".

An ICM poll for the Guardian showed May with a 12-point lead - enough for a big majority of around 100 but down two points from last week and a far cry from the record 22-point lead earlier this month.
