Soldier killed, 4 injured after terrorists attack army convoy

On Saturday, two soldiers were killed and 4 others injured when terrorists attacked an Indian Army convoy on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway.

A search operation has been launched to track the militants.

Following the attack the 300-km long strategic highway has been closed for vehicular moment.

The convoy was coming towards Srinagar when it was attacked, " he said.

Further details are awaited. The Poonch incident had started on Friday night at around 11 pm and at least one civilian was injured in the same. Officials said that militants, hiding in bushes and behind trees, fired at the convoy and fled the spot.

The injured jawans were soon taken to a hospital where one personnel succumbed to his injuries.

According to reports, militant outfit Hizbul Mujahideen has claimed responsibility for the attack.

He was named as the successor of Burhan Wani after the latter was killed in a gunfight with security forces on July 8 previous year. The attack also led to a civilian's death, when she was hit by a stray bullet, Hindustan Times said further.

Meanwhile, Army chief Gen Bipin Rawat today visited LoC formations and army units in North Kashmir to review operational preparedness of troops. He urged them to carry on their duties with utmost professionalism.
