Trump sons defend his criticism of London mayor

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan closes his eyes as he joins London Ambulance workers in observing a minute's silence at the London Ambulance Service headquarters at Waterloo, central London, in honour of the London Bridge terror attack.

Khan is backed by other opposition leaders. "We have constant attacks going on, not just there, but across the globe".

"Londoners will see an increased police presence today and over the course of the next few days".

Asked if Trump was wrong to make the comments, British Prime Minister Theresa May said at a news conference Monday that "Sadiq Khan is doing a good job and it's wrong to say anything else - he's doing a good job". "I think the media wants to spin it that way".

Asked on Tuesday about the London visit, White House spokesman Sean Spicer said only that Trump meant to go and that "he appreciates her majesty's gracious invitation". "I've got better and more important things to focus on".

Prime Minister May, the Conservative Party leader, was asked earlier on Monday about Trump's criticism of Khan. "It's not about me".

He also said he was supporting his Democrat rival, Hillary Clinton, saying: "I hope she trounces him".

"What Donald Trump did in response to the British tragedy was, again, I think, inappropriate for a toddler, much less the president of the United States", Rep. Jim Himes of CT said on CNN's New Day.

In an exclusive interview with ABC News Chief National Correspondent Tom Llamas, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump argued that London isn't doing enough to root out terrorism in the wake of Saturday's deadly attack. "I don't know how you do your job under those circumstances".

Instead the first son urged action.

Mr Khan added: "Of course we should carry on talking to Donald Trump, the United States of America are close allies of ours".

"Having said that, I think Donald Trump is wrong in what he said about Sadiq Khan, in relation to the attack on London Bridge. No reason to be alarmed", Khan said while addressing residents.

After Mr Khan said that the US President had "deliberately" taken his remarks "out of context", Mr Trump doubled down, tweeting: "Pathetic excuse by London Mayor Sadiq Khan who had to think fast on his "no reason to be alarmed" statement. MSM is working hard to sell it!"

"State visits are given to world leaders who have had a distinguished service, who have a track record, and in the circumstances, where Donald Trump as president had a Muslim ban, had changed the policies of the U.S., the long-standing policies around refugees, in the circumstances when many British people disagree with many of Donald Trump's policies, we shouldn't be having a state visit".

In his Sunday tweet, Trump commented: "At least 7 dead and 48 wounded in terror attack and Mayor of London says there is 'no reason to be alarmed!'"
