SpaceX poised for Thursday cargo launch to space station

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - Stormy weather thwarted SpaceX's effort Thursday to launch its first recycled cargo ship to the International Space Station.

In the event of delay for any reason, the next launch opportunity is 5:07 p.m. Saturday, June 3, with NASA TV coverage starting at 4:30 p.m.

"We will be reflying our first Dragon capsule on CRS-11", he said, using the company's designation for that cargo mission, known as SpX-11 by NASA.

SpaceX is set to deliver almost three tons of supplies, equipment and experiments to the International Space Station on Thursday (1 June) using a refurbished Dragon cargo capsule that has already been flown before.

The Spaceflight Now Twitter page, said that the weather is currently a "no go" for the launch but updates continue to come in on the status of the launch.

This will be the 100th overall launch from NASA's historic pad 39A, which is now under lease by SpaceX.

On October 25, 2014, the Dragon spacecraft returned to Earth splashing down in the Pacific Ocean. The milestone comes just two months after the launch of its first reused rocket booster. One such experiment is the NICER, an instrument that will eventually be mounted to the outside of the ISS to search for neutron stars. It will still launch from Florida's Kennedy Space Center.

SpaceX is all set to launch its 11th resupply mission to the International Space.

SpaceX has taken it upon itself to keep the International Space Station well stocked. This launch will be the eleventh commercial resupply services flight for SpaceX. More than 2,000 kilograms of that is scientific hardware, including experiments to be conducted inside the station as well as astrophysics, earth science and space technology experiments to be mounted on the station's exterior.

It's not a typical launch, as the Dragon capsule heading to the ISS has been used before, in September 2016. The Musketeers haven't given a figure on how much reusing the dragon capsule will save, but it's expected to be a lot. The spacecraft has undergone significant refurbishment, and has a new heat shield.

Reusing a Dragon capsule is "one more piece of the puzzle" in creating a fully reusable launch system, said Marco Caceres, senior space analyst at the Teal Group.
