Summer Reading Program registration underway

Summer Reading Program registration underway

Summer reading programs sponsored by Georgia's public libraries steer children toward positive activities while also getting them interested in books.

Once again, participants will be able to use "Beanstack", the BCLS online tracking system, to log their reading progress, explore books lists, and access activity guides customized for each age group and created to encourage learning, curiosity and fun.

"We are proud to be part of Rochester, and we wanted to be part of the bicentennial celebration as well", she said.

The Rancho Santa Fe Library held a party on the patio June 1 to jumpstart the 2017 Summer Reading Program. Decorate your own Eat'n Park Smiley Cookie, play games in the CLP Arcade and browse the annual book sale. Some events require early registration and others are available to attend the day of. Offering the program online means that you can participate even if you can't make it to the library or if you are away on summer vacation.

"This summer our program will focus on those four areas".

Another great thing about the summer reading program, she said, is that everyone gets to choose what they want to read.

Many children who associate books with the drudgery of school and homework find they enjoy reading after all when they aren't required to take quizzes based on the material.

Siobahn Reardon, the Library's President and Director, says the program is about the library establishing personal connections with children. Kids, teens, and adults can pick up reading logs during the event to track their summer reading minutes. Prizes, including the legendary Mystery Prize, will be raffled off at the annual finale party on August 3.
