Florida wins men's NCAA track and field championships

Toronto's Justyn Knight finished third in the 5,000-metre event at the NCAA Division I Championships in Eugene, Oregon on Friday. He pulled up in the 200 during that competition.

As it was on the men's side on Wednesday night, six finals are slated to go off on Thursday, including the 10,000m for women, which closes out the track competition at 10:48 p.m. ET, (7:48 p.m. local time).

Florida's women sit in a tie for seventh place with 10 points, though they are within four points of everyone but No. 6 Georgia (24.2 points), which holds the lead after one day.

Holloway and KeAndre Bates were major reasons why Florida stood atop the podium at day's end.

Arkansas was 13th going into the 5000, but jumped onto the podium thanks to 16 points in the final two events. "After the 4x100 meters, we lost a lot of momentum". New Mexico's Josh Kerr won the 1,500 with a time of 3:43.03, eight seconds off the record pace set in 1981. It was also listed as the second best time in Auburn history and stands as the sixth fastest in the world this year. After a slow third heat, London was officially through to his first outdoor 400-meter final with the seventh-best time overall.

In the women's 200 meters, sophomore Jenae Ambrose brought home honorable mention All-American honors with a 20th place finish.

She took bronze in the NCAA and SEC Indoor Championships earlier this year.

Freshman Maxwell Willis was the lone men's athlete to qualify in two individual events. That disadvantage left the sophomore Bear near the back of the pack heading into the homestretch and he was unable to overtake any runners over the final 80 meters.

After Kintyhtt fouled on his first attempt, the senior hit a mark of 51.07 meters. The action continues with senior Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake in the finals of the 100 meters at 8:22 p.m. and 200 meters at 9:07 p.m., while senior Michael Cherry lines up in the 400 meters at 8:32 p.m.

The NCAA Championships are being broadcast on the ESPN Family of Networks with Friday's Evening Session with the Men starting at 5:30pm Pacific Time on ESPN.
