More GTA mods axed following OpenIV closure

Despite the action against online cheat tools, Rockstar said in 2015 that it had no interest in punishing players for single-player modding.

Take-Two has rapidly been closing down GTA Online mods and the community isn't liking it one bit.

If you haven't been following the uproar that has engulfed the Grand Theft Auto 5 since Take-Two issued a cease-and-desist to popular modding tool OpenIV, here's the short version: People are pissed.

Two Grand Theft Auto Online cheat menus have shut down this week, the first being Force Hax and the second being Menyoo. At the time of writing, only 13% of the 39,936 reviews offered in the last 30 days have been positive.

As much as the community didn't take the news of OpenIV being shut down well, I doubt many will miss tools like these that exist to annoy the heck out of players that don't cheat. Around 38,000 people gave GTA V negative reviews on Steam, leading to its general score to drop to the "overwhelmingly negative" status.

The modding tools Force Hax, Lexicon and Menyoo, which incurred a fee for subscribing, have been taken offline with all earnings going to charity.

As can be expected, Take-Two's move has angered numerous game's fanbase with some even swearing to never buy a game from the publisher ever again.

"It was a hard decision, but when any modding activity has been declared illegal, we can't see any possibilities to continue this process, unless top management of Take-Two company makes an official statement about modding, which can be used in court".

According to reports, the "GTA" community was angered with the development and a petition has been launched to have OpenIV be revived.

Currently, the petition has amassed over 52,000 supporters and is just 23,000 away from reaching its goal of 75,000 supporters. We are working to figure out how we can continue to support the creative community without negatively impacting our players.
