Miami Dolphins Sign Jay Cutler out of Retirement

Should Tannehill be sidelined, Matt Moore would step into the starting role barring any signings from outside of the organisation.

Cutler's one-year contract also includes up to $3 million in incentives, NFL.com reported. After the news came late last week that QB Ryan Tannehill had re-injured his left knee at practice, it has been nothing short of a roller-coaster ride for the team, with a whirlwind of names connected to potentially stepping in and filling the void.

The treatment, which included stem cell treatments, was the unorthodox path and led to serious questions about the approach because most athletes who tear their ACL have surgery.

Before the Dolphins could even determine the severity of Tannehill's injury, folks were clamoring for Colin Kaepernick as a replacement at quarterback in Miami.

The Miami Dolphins took to the field at Hard Rock Stadium for their annual intrasquad scrimmage but six key members of the offense were missing. While no announcement has been made as to what Tannehill's situation is and how the team is opting to proceed, the writing on the wall here says it all.

Tannehill spent the past several days consulting multiple medical experts with the hope of perhaps undergoing rehabilitation to the knee rather than submit to surgery.

National Football League teams can bring two players back from injured reserve during the regular season, without designating them for a possible return in advance.

You have to imagine that by this point both Fox and the Dolphins just want Cutler to make a decision so they can move forward one way or the other. In 2013, Peyton Manning lobbied for Gase to get promoted from Denver's quarterbacks coach to offensive coordinator. The two worked together with the Chicago Bears in 2015. Gase joined Miami in 2016, and Cutler parted with Chicago in March after eight seasons.

Cutler threw 21 touchdowns and just 11 interceptions that season while completing 64.4 percent of his passes.
