Henrik Stenson wins the Wyndham

Henrik Stenson wins the Wyndham

"I played good, and have been playing good for a while", Every said. "I hit it ideal, hoping it was the right number and watched it go in". Stenson has finished inside the top 17 in five of his last six starts, including two top-15 finishes in majors.

Playing in front of Stenson, Schniederjans poured in his own long birdie putt at the 17th before hitting his approach tight into the final hole making another birdie to post 21-under-par and hope for a playoff.

Simpson - a local favourite who grew up in Raleigh, played in college at nearby Wake Forest and named his third child Wyndham after his first victory on tour came here - shared the 54-hole lead with Ryan Armour at 13 under. He picked up two more at the 11th and 16th, and then holed an astonishing 66-foot eagle putt at the par-five 17th to get to ten under.

Stenson drained a 40-foot putt on the par-four 17th to help seal his 17th global title including his sixth on the USPGA Tour.

Henrik Stenson produced a stunning late charge to clinch his first title of the year at the Wyndham Championship, denying Ollie Schniederjans in the process. It should have surprised nobody that Otaegui reached the final as he arrived at the Beckenbauer Course having recorded four successive top-20 finishes.

Stenson originally added this event simply to ensure he'd make the 15-start minimum requirement to keep his card, since he wasn't yet assured of a spot in the 70-man BMW Championship. "Sometimes it's just a coincidence why you decide to go to a tournament and make a change on your schedule and this time it certainly worked out for a lot of good".

Ogilvy went out in 6-under 29 but struggled on the inward half with two double bogeys against a lone birdie.

"He pushed me all the way to the end". "I like the position I'm in".

Texan Johnson Wagner is a further shot back on -14 after carding a five-under-par 65 whilst another USA trio of Richy Werenski, Harold Varner III and Davis Love III are on -13.

2011 champion Webb Simpson, a 15/2 shot, features sits in a share of third spot on seven under, with Ryder Cup-winning captain Davis Love III part of the group three off the pace.

"This was the best performance I've had in that situation", he said.

"But this is a kind of a course, where even three-under would push you back".

Talk about hitting a big shot when you need it.

A win would also give Love the record for most years between first and last Tour wins - 30 years since his 1997 RBC Heritage victory.
