Shelton Benjamin In Action, Ziggler Returns

Shelton Benjamin In Action, Ziggler Returns

Jinder Mahal has defeated both Randy Orton and Shinsuke Nakamura in singles action. It was earlier announced that The Viper and The Artist would face each other in singles competition next week with the victor becoming a strong contender to challenge Mahal for the title.

- The episode opened with a long Jinder Mahal promo. They now want to kiss his feet on behalf of India. Randy Orton stormed out in an attempt to save his partner for the night but with Rusev also emerging into the fold, the numbers game eventually took over. WWE having the title on Jinder Mahal has resulted in a ripple down its roster that has SmackDown relatively out of whack.

We saw Shelton Benjamin make his return to WWE last week, and it looks like he will be teaming with Chad Gable, at least for the time being.

Benjamin & Gable looked crisp in their first outing as a team, but Konnor & Viktor were not looking to fade quietly into the night and wore down Gable. Gable made a hot tag late to bring Shelton back in so he could clean house. The Ascension via pinfall: The two are not called "American Alpha" and are not using Gable's awesome theme music (nor Benjamin's classic "ain't no stoppin' me now" intro). However, once Benjamin was able to find his way into the match, The Gold Standard fired up, fending off both members of The Ascension, and then caught a clutch assist from Gable, leading into him hitting Paydirt on Viktor for the win. Since the stipulations stated that Owens can never again challenge for the title while Styles is champion, one has to assume Owens is not too pleased about the situation. Tye Dillinger tried to answer the challenge but Baron Corbin blindsided him. After the match, Lana instructed two photographers to enter the ring and take pictures of them celebrating the victory. However, Styles was able to make a strong comeback and defeat Dillinger with the Calf Crusher for the submission victory.

Dillinger was all over Styles in the beginning of the contest, rallying strongly despite suffering the attack from Corbin.

SD Live's latest acquisition Bobby Roode continued on his glorious path by beating Mike Kanellis nearly without breaking a sweat. This time around he defeated Mike Kanellis in a match that went three minutes. Roode ate a back elbow but then connected with a spinebuster and hit the Glorious DDT for the win.

Shane walked to tell Owens that this wasn't the right place or the right time to air his grievances and asked the Prize fighter to leave so that Aiden English could have a match against Sami Zayn. Due to some shady officiating, commissioner Shane McMahon came down to the ring to ensure a clean match, and the subsequent argument with Corbin resulted in the former failed Mr. Money in the Bank walking out on the match - after throwing the stripes at the commissioner. He said he counted a fair pinfall for Styles.

A distraught Owens went and sat on the commentary table during the match. Owens runs down the ref and then gets in the ring. Owens took over as referee. Owens hit his pop-up powerbomb to Zayn and English covered him for the win.

The New Day's short-lived WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship reign was ended at SummerSlam by The Usos, with the feud now likely to continue into next month. Jimmy then makes a blind tag and rolls up Kofi for the win.
