Nadal enters US Open final (Second Lead)

Nadal enters US Open final (Second Lead)

The two time US Open champion faced Alexandr Dolgopolov of Ukraine in his fourth round match and won in straight sets 6-2, 6-4, 6-1, not giving Dolgopolov any margin for error.

The 28-year-old del Potro meets world No. 1 Nadal tomorrow morning for a berth in Monday morning's final.

"This year has been an emotional year".

"Tonight I made my best backhands on the tournament in the important moments of the match, and it was in the set point of the third set".

"I think it was really good match", the Spaniard said. Then I chose to change completely to play much more forehands down the line, and then I was more unpredictable and he was more in trouble, because he didn't know where to go, no? After Nadal vs. Del Porto, you can watch South Africa's Kevin Anderson take on Pablo Carreno Busta. And Nadal maintain an 8-5 career edge over his opponent. He served well, had some big shots when he needed to.

"He's had many injuries but the way he has come back is a great example to the kids", he said praising Anderson.

At 32 in the world, Anderson is the lowest-ranked man to reach a singles final at Flushing Meadows since the ranking system was introduced in 1973.

Nadal has not been as dominant in NY as he was at the French Open, which he won for the 10th time and without dropping a set, but the world number one has played himself into sparkling form.

Kevin Anderson entered the crowd to hug his brother after advancing to his first Grand Slam final at the U.S. Open on Friday. Nadal was simply unstoppable, and allowed only 5 games to his rival, closing this event in a convincing manner 4:6, 6:0, 6:3, 6:2.

Rafael Nadal is one win from capping a career-turnaround season with a 16th Grand Slam title, following one of the most magnificent hours of hard-court tennis of his life.

Eventually, del Potro's flat, fearsome forehand became less unsafe, as if he suddenly remembered just how tired he was.

The 36-year-old insisted it was his physical struggles, along with the form of Del Potro, that decided the match.

"Juan Martin deserves it more".

Since 2009, when Rafael Nadal lost to Juan Martin del Potro, Rafael has progressed to the final 15 times.

"I played everything well".

"I know if I play my best tennis, I could be a danger for him", Del Potro said after his best performance of the fortnight.

"He's the No. 1 player of the world, and he's playing so confident this tournament".

Once the Spanish lefty started hitting more forehands down the line to the righthander's backhand, Nadal found del Potro getting into trouble "because he didn't know where to go".

After a draining epic five-setter against Thiem and no less taxing four set quarter-finals win over Roger Federer, Del Potro simply seemed to run out of gas.
