Undergraduate programs in the Hankamer School of Business ranked No. 64, tied with 13 other universities, while the business school's undergraduate entrepreneurship program is rated No. 12 in the nation. Then, colleges are ranked against the other schools in the same category. The criteria for the rankings, which include reputation, alumni giving and graduation rates, often drive university policy as schools work to improve their spot on the list.

Furman University ranked tied for 53rd among national liberal arts colleges and fifth for best colleges for veterans in that category.

Baylor is rated No. 62 in the U.S. News High School Counselor Rankings.

KU tied for 115th overall among public and private universities in the rankings, up three places from last year's rankings.

Albion College is 128 in the national liberal arts colleges rankings, down from 122 past year.

In "Payback Picture" rankings for National Liberal Arts Colleges, U.S. News & World Report lists LSU of Alexandria among the schools whose students finish college with the least amount of debt. According to the magazine, the list was compiled by asking college presidents, provosts and admissions deans to nominate colleges that are making the "most innovative improvements in terms of curriculum, faculty, students, campus life, technology or facilities".

Many higher education experts warn the U.S. News rankings should be taken with a grain of salt.

University ranks fourth in the state this year, climbing from 74th in the nation last year to 69th this year.

"Our students are accepted into professional schools, including medical, dental, law and pharmacy programs, at rates well above state and national averages".

The University of SC ranked No. 1 in worldwide business programs.

Officials at the University of Mobile, which also came in at No. 5 among regional colleges in the South, celebrated the news as part of an ongoing surge.

"We are pleased to see that our affordability is also recognized, with OBU ranked first for Western colleges for our students having the least debt upon graduation".
