President, First Lady to Visit Florida in Aftermath of Hurricane Irma

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders previously said that Trump would visit Florida today, but she declined to say where specifically the president would be going.

The first lady also disclosed through a tweet that she is taking off with the President to visit Florida.

Trump pledged to come back to Florida "numerous times".

He is set to receive an Irma update at Fort Myers before heading to Naples to survey the damage.

Irma has devastated Florida, causing at least 25 deaths as of Wednesday morning, and leaving millions without power. Having seen the damage in our impacted areas first hand with local response leaders, I greatly appreciate Governor Scott's requests and President Trump's approval of federal assistance for our communities.

Irma made landfall in Puerto Rico and Florida early Saturday morning as a Category 4 hurricane with 130 miles per hour winds.

Speaking at a meeting with a group of Republican and Democratic lawmakers at the White House, Trump said his main goal was to cut taxes for the middle class and cut corporate taxes to boost job growth.

The president also used the opportunity to encourage Scott to run for the Senate.

A possible alliance between Trump and the Democrats on immigration would represent a major political gamble for a president who made promises of tougher border control policies the centerpiece of his campaign and pledged to build a "big, handsome wall" along the U.S. -Mexico border.

The U.S has been hit by both hurricane Harvey and hurricane Irma which have displaced so many homes. Trump said then, "if they have to go higher, they'll go higher, frankly".

"It's a team like very few people have seen", Trump said, referring to Florida Gov. Rick Scott, Sen. "What do I know but I hope this man right here. runs for the Senate", he said.
