'Cowboy Bebop' director made a 'Blade Runner' animated short

Blade Runner 2022 will also feature music from Kuedo and Miguel Atwood Ferguson, who's worked with Flying Lotus in the past.

The first short focused on Jared Leto's Jared Leto's villainous Niander Wallace while the latest is titled 2048: Nowhere to Run. The first short, Blade Runner 2036, hinted at a major blackout event in the past that changed the course of the world.

With the long-awaited sequel Blade Runner 2049 set to hit theaters next month, it has been revealed that Cowboy Bebop director Shinichiro Watanabe is making a new anime short set within the Blade Runner universe.

Johnnie Walker Black Label appeared in the original Blade Runner movie 35 years ago as a prop of the future, and the new tipple will be called Johnnie Walker Black Label The Director's Cut.

The new expression was created by Johnnie Walker master blender Jim Beveridge with the film's director, Denis Villeneuve, with one eye on how whiskies of the future might taste.

A video posted Thursday by Sony Pictures Japan shows a closer look at the animation and concept art from "Blade Runner Black Out 2022", as well as glimpses at the final film.

Villeneuve reteams with frequent cinematographer Roger Deakins for the sci-fi story with Ridley Scott as executive producer; Blade Runner scribe Hampton Fancher and Michael Green penned the screenplay for the sequel. And the cyberpunk era has returned with the Scarlett Johansson-starring Ghost in the Shell (though whitewashing controversies helped turn the film into a box office bomb) and the upcoming Blade Runner 2049.

49% ABV both for added intensity and as a nod to the futuristic period in which Blade Runner 2049 is set. Blade Runner 2049 debuts in cinemas on 6 October (17).

Watanabe is a reverent fan of Ridley Scott's masterpiece.

Blade Runner 2022 is out in Japan on September 26.
