Died the hardest woman in the world

She passed away on Monday morning at 4.35 am due to complications from the underlying co-morbid conditions.

Since Abdul Atti reached Burjeel Hospital in April "bedridden" from Mumbai's Saifee Hospital in India, where she underwent weight loss surgery, she was under the supervision of 20 medical experts.

She reportedly lost 324 kg during her weight-loss treatment at the Mumbai hospital; she was on a special liquid diet to reduce her weight enough so that doctors could perform bariatric surgery.

Confined to her bed for twenty-five years, Ahmed could not receive the necessary medical aid for her condition in her home country.

Earlier this year she had an incredible surgery which saw her lose around 600lbs, and she was keen to lose even more weight. Her sister launched an online campaign to help save her sister's life and Dr. Muffazal Lakdawala offered to help with a laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy operation.

Doctors believe a thyroid condition and a rare gene defect caused Abd El Aty's extreme weight gain, which eventually rendered her immobile.

She left Saifee hospital in May after her family fell out with doctors and flew to Abu Dhabi's Burjeel hospital where she celebrated her birthday last week.

When she left, she weighed around 176 kg. The Alexandria native had dreamed to one day visit the beach again, the Indian Express said quoting her sister. Her family told the doctor that as a child she was diagnosed with elephantiasis, a condition that causes the limbs and other body parts to swell, leaving her nearly immobile.

Dr Lakdawala supervised the treatment at the Saifee hospital and revealed that the hospital did not charge "a single penny" from Ms Ahmed's family. She was admitted at the hospital on May 4 after arriving in the UAE from India.
