Myanmar to take back Rohingya from latest influxes only

Over the past weeks, almost 510,000 Rohingya Muslim refugees have crossed Myanmar's borders into Bangladesh, where they are staying at refugee camps in the Cox's Bazar border district.

Mahmood held talks with Kyaw Tint Swe, a representative of Myanmar's de-facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi's.

High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi (2nd L) visits the Kutupalong refugee camp in Bangladesh for Rohingya Muslims who have fled violence in Myanmar on September 23, 2017.

Myanmar and Bangladesh have agreed to establish a "working group" that aims to repatriate over half a million Rohingya Muslims who've fled to Bangladesh during army attacks against their villages and civilians.

The Bangladesh minister gave no time frame for repatriation.

Thailand's foreign ministry, in a rare statement on an ongoing crisis in neighboring Myanmar's Rakhine state, said late on Saturday that it was "closely following the situation" and would provide aid to the governments of Myanmar and Bangladesh.

But Myanmar denies this, saying it is fighting Rohingya terrorists who have claimed responsibility for attacks on its security forces.

For a "poor" country like Bangladesh to allow such a huge number of refugees to enter its soil is a big thing as it is nowhere capable of giving proper shelter, food and clothing to so many refugees who have left their homeland to avoid violence and persecution.

"Bangladesh has reiterated its zero tolerance on terrorism", Ali said adding that both sides wanted to resolve the crisis (Rohingya influx) in a peaceful manner. The latest violence began when a Rohingya insurgent group launched deadly attacks on security posts August 25, prompting Myanmar's military to launch "clearance operations". There are around one million Rohingya Muslims living in Myanmar.

The specialized agency stated the appeal will cover the immediate needs of the newly-arrived Rohingya children of the Muslim minority forced to flee Rakhine, Myanmar, for violence and discrimination.

There were already about 300,000 Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh before the most recent exodus.

Global aid groups fear tens of thousands of Rohingya who remain in northern parts of Rakhine are in urgent need of food, medicine and shelter after over a month of military operations.

India's Supreme Court has heard arguments from the government and the two Rohingya, who have petitioned against the government's plan to deport the persecuted refugees.
