Netflix Price Increase 2017: How Much More Will Subscribers Pay?

An increase in plan prices will certainly help Netflix with its revenue growth, so long as the company can offset cancellations and adjust to new subscription growth expectations.

Netflix has treaded lightly with price increases since 2011, when it suddenly hiked prices 60% for streaming and DVD-by-mail subscribers.

The basic plan-which allows streaming on one device in standard definition-is keeping its $7.99 pricing for now. Netflix has raised the rates on two of their subscription plans, with the new rates going into effect for November.

The price changes applied immediately to new customers and will roll out in the weeks ahead to current subscribers.

Netflix said it was raising prices "as we add more exclusive TV shows and movies, introduce new product features and improve the overall Netflix experience".

Netflix is squeezing a bit more out of its customers.

These new prices only affect American viewers, so Canada is good.for now. Netflix told Mashable that it occasionally raises prices in order to add more content and features to the platform.

Netflix isn't really in a position to cut costs when it comes to content creation either, as competitors like Hulu and Amazon are steadily pumping more and more money into their own original movies and shows as well.

A top-level plan that includes super-rich 4k video and watching from four screens at a time got a two-dollar price hike to $13.99 monthly.

According to USA Today, the service's most popular plan will now cost $10.99 cents a month. He predicted the upcoming price increase will generate an additional $650 million in revenue next year. They increased their spending budget to $6 billion this year, and chief content officer Ted Sarandos recently said it will likely go up to $7 billion next year.

Looking forward to the second season of Stranger Things?
