President's Immigration Plan Puts Americans First

President's Immigration Plan Puts Americans First

Trump also calls in the list for an end to "extended-family chain migration", limiting family-based green cards to spouses and minor children.

First on the list is Trump's long-promised border wall.

Trump ended the program last month, but gave Congress six months to come up with alternative legislation to prevent recipients from losing their status.

Fast-forward to Sunday, when senior Trump administration officials offered their early demands for an immigration bill - one that preserves DACA at a steep price for its supporters.

The White House proposals would curb the ability of family members to join their relatives from overseas, upending decades of immigration policy, and put strict new limits on asylum claims.

They accused Mr Trump of backtracking on a commitment not to include the border wall in negotiations over the status of young immigrants, who are mostly from Mexico and other Latin American countries.

DACA comprises of about 690,000 immigrants, however, each of their permits will be reaching expiration date effective March. If there were any fears that Trump was caving in to Democrat demands on a DACA deal - and there were - this immigration plan will quickly dispel them.

The new demands would have to be met for President Trump to agree to legislation that would protect from deportation young immigrants who entered the country illegally as children.

"For years, this country, including Capitol Hill and the swamp, they've always asked 'what more can we do for the illegal immigrant?" Now President Trump has put forth a series of proposals that will restore the rule of law to our immigration system, prioritize America's safety and security, and end the lawlessness. The fundamental theme running throughout the plan is a renewed focus on the primary problem - closing illegal immigration loopholes. This proposal fails to represent any attempt at compromise, ' they added.

The problem, she said, "cannot be bandaged over at the presidential level through another executive order that can be rescinded by a subsequent administration". All in all, the proposals "amount to a Christmas-in-October wish list for immigration hard-liners inside the White House", notes the New York Times.

Mr. Schumer and Mrs. Pelosi, who received the immigration principles on Sunday, reacted with dismay.

PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: And Chuck and Nancy would like to see something happen, and so do I. And I said, if we can get something to happen, we're going to sign it, and we're going to make it.

"This list goes so far beyond what is reasonable".

Democrats quickly opposed the plan saying it goes against the deal they struck with the President to protect so-called "Dreamers", immigrants brought to the USA illegally as children.
