First Federal Charges Filed In Mueller's Donald Trump Russia Investigation

It is unknown who has been charged or what the charges are.

CNN reported Friday night that a federal grand jury has approved the first charges filed by Department of Justice special counsel Robert Mueller into alleged collusion between the presidential campaign of US President Donald Trump and Russian actors. It quoted sources as saying anyone who was charged could be taken into custody as soon as Monday.

"If the Special Counsel finds it necessary and appropriate, the Special Counsel is authorized to prosecute federal crimes arising from the investigation of these matters", Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein said in a May 17 letter appointing Mueller.

Mueller and a team of investigators are probing potential coordination between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign.

However, reports of charges being filed appear to signal that Mueller means business and the investigation will likely continue well into 2018.

The Kremlin has also denied the claims.

The investigation is also looking into allegations that Trump obstructed justice when he fired Comey.

In addition to the possibility of collusion, Mueller and his team have focused their investigation into obstruction on behalf of President Trump, who fired former FBI director James Comey, who once led the Russian Federation investigation.

Flynn was sacked from the administration in February after it was found that he had misled vice president Mike Pence on his dealings with Russian officials.

It is still not known who will receive the indictment or what the charges are.
