Nearly 20 Percent Of 2016 Race Hate Crimes Were 'Anti-White'

The annual hate crimes statistics figures released by the Federal Bureau of Investigation on Monday finds that fifteen of the hate crimes reported in the state past year were associated with race or ethnicity. Utah Highway Patrol saw the highest number of race-related hate crimes with 10 incidents reported.

More than half of those against people were assault cases, while almost 45 percent were crimes of intimidation.

Furthermore, there were another 7,321 related offenses stemming from bias against race, religion, sexual orientation, and other traits. The agency collects its data from participating law enforcement officials through the Uniform Crime Reporting Program.

The yearly report is the most comprehensive accounting of hate crimes in the U.S. But authorities have long warned it is incomplete, in part because it is based on voluntary reporting by police agencies across the country.

Hate crimes in the United States increased by nearly five percent in 2016, when the country registered 6,121 acts of this type, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced today.

These numbers correlate with the NCAVP's recent report. A report from the department's hate crimes task force is due next year, but Mr. Sessions noted noted other steps being taken in the meantime - highlighting the DOJ's decision to appoint a prosecutor from the civil rights division to assist prosecution of a man accused of killing a transgender teenager.

"No person should have to fear being violently attacked because of who they are, what they believe, of how they worship", US Attorney General Jeff Sessions said in a statement.

Incidents targeting Jews increased from 664 incidents in 2015 to 684 incidents in 2016.

Of the 6,121 criminal incidents reported, 6,063 were single-bias incidents (there were also 58 multiple-bias incidents).

San Francisco reported 28 hate crimes in 2015 to 37 hate crimes in 2016 and San Jose reported six to 19 in the same time period.
