Notorious killer Charles Manson is 'on his deathbed'

Manson, 83, was reportedly rushed to the local hospital for "various treatments", TMZ said.

Charles Manson, a mass killer from the 1960s who led his cult of followers down a path of anarchy and murder, is facing life-threatening ailments at a California hospital, USA Today reported Thursday.

Vicky Waters, a spokeswoman for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, told the LA Times that Manson is still alive, but she did not comment on the severity of his condition.

TMZ.com reports an unnamed source says Manson is not expected to improve and that "it's just a matter of time".

All members of the "Family" were sentenced to death. But a 1972 ruling by the California Supreme Court found the state's death penalty law at the time unconstitutional, and his sentence was changed to life in prison with the possibility of parole.

At his last parole hearing in 2012, the parole board described Manson as unhinged and remorseless and denied him permission to reapply for release until 2027, when he would be 92 years old.

During his four decades of incarceration, Manson has been anything but a model prisoner.
