Redskins lose running back Chris Thompson with ugly leg injury

He turned in his first 100-yard rushing performance of his National Football League career last week when the Saints routed the Buffalo Bills, and he went over 1,000 all-purpose yards on the season with his performance on Sunday against Washington.

With the Saints down 31-23 to the Washington Redskins late in the fourth, Kamara made a juggling catch and slipped his way through multiple defenders for a score. Cousins came back on the field and led the Redskins on a touchdown drive, hitting Ryan Grant on a 40-yard scoring pass for a 24-13 lead.

The injury obviously is devastating for Thompson, but also is a tough blow for the Redskins, as Thompson has been their most dynamic player throughout the 2017-18 season.

Brees threw touchdown passes to Josh Hill and Alvin Kamara in the fourth quarter to erase a 15-point deficit.

From there, Mark Ingram took it home, stringing together back-to-back long rushes to get the team in field goal range, where Wil Lutz delivered on that 1.1 percent sliver of hope.

After losing the toss for OT, the Saints forced a punt and drove 51 yards in three plays for the winning field goal. Thompson hurt his knee on the play and left the game for good.

Brees finished 29-of-41 passing, for 385 yards and two touchdowns. But the Redskins quarterback barely missed any time, quickly coming back on the field and tossing a touchdown for what appeared to be the "dagger" TD - Troy Aikman's words - for the Redskins to take a 24-13 lead.
