Google improves Pixel battery life prediction algorithm

Declared on Thursday, Google states that the recent Smart battery will "make your battery life estimates more accurate on Pixel!". For instance, if a user consumes five percent of the phone's battery per hour for the first five hours, then the phone would automatically assume that the user will now continue to use the same five percent for subsequent hour till the battery runs out. However, Michelle admitted that the method is not very accurate and battery usage may differ for users at different times of the day. So, if you have a habit of watching a lot of YouTube videos during the weekend and frequently use your email or Slack during the weekdays, a new on-device model will learn these habits and adjust your estimated remaining battery life based on them. In a nutshell, the Smart Battery feature takes into account the variations in the usage patterns and thus predicts the remaining battery life.

As you can see in Google's modelling below, the battery usage chart with Smart Battery isn't just a linear progression anymore.

The company elucidates that the Android smartphone previously utilized to assess battery loss with straightforward conjectures but the latest on-device model estimates how user's handset battery is exhausted over a period. People can view the percent of battery left as well as how many hours the device is expected to last.
