Gates is believed to be the only other person to reach $100 billion in 1999.

Bloomberg reported that the Amazon CEO's fortune surged $2.4 billion to $100.3 billion, after the retailer's shares grew more than 2 percent on Black Friday.

The founder of the world's largest e-commerce company made almost United States dollars 2.4 billion on Friday alone. The Microsoft founder is now worth a mere $89 billion, according to Forbes and Bloomberg.

In July, Bezos had pipped Bill Gates to briefly become the world's richest person for the first time.

Bezos has apparently sold approximately $500 million worth of his own Amazon shares since 2002 but has previously stated that he sells approximately $1 billion worth of Amazon shares a year to fund his space exploration business Blue Origin LLC.

Bezos started 2017 as the fourth richest person in the world, and surpassed both Inditex (ZTSTF, +2.98%) founder Amancio Ortega and Berkshire Hathaway's Warren Buffet this year as well. That said, Gates has given a significant amount of his fortune away to charity and in acts of philanthropy. As Bloomberg points out, Gates, who now has a net worth of $86.8 billion, would be worth more than $150 billion if he hadn't given $700 million in Microsoft shares and $2.9 billion in cash to charity.

But Mr Bezos has to date has not given away any of his wealth, but in June he tweeted that he wanted the help people with his fortune and was looking for ideas for how to share it.

According to Bloomberg, this year itself, worth of Bezos rose by around $34 billion.

His goal was to tackle problems "at the intersection of urgent need and lasting impact".
