Qualcomm makes the Snapdragon 845 processor official

These type of PCs, such as the ones from HP and ASUS are running Windows 10 on ARM, and they can deliver all-day battery life, better security, and much more.

We expect further details to head the bill at tomorrows Qualcomm Tech Summit keynote, but for now we have no further information on the chip, other than it will be manufacturered by Samsung, just like the Snapdragon 835. Both devices will ship with Windows 10S, but ASUS and HP are offering free upgrades to Windows 10 Pro before September 30, 2018. The Envy X2 is very similar to numerous Surface Pro types of computers that already exist, while the NovaGo feels just like any other budget to midrange laptop. The ASUS laptop also sports a full HDMI socket and a microSD slot, while we don't yet know for sure if the Envy x2 has those ports. It's effectively a Snapdragon version of the Spectre x2.

This announcement is also a win for GizmoChina, which predicted the "early December" unveiling for the Snapdragon 845 way back in October. HP claimed the device achieves up to 20 hours of battery life, and up to 700 hours in Connected Modern Standby mode.

The new Envy x2 is nearly unrecognizable compared with its brushed-aluminum ancestor, which featured all-day battery life but a painfully slow Intel Atom processor when it debuted in 2013. That's local video playback with the NovaGo offering an every more impressive 22. Users can use both eSIMs and Nano SIMs on the device.

That's not all as standy time is quoted at 700 hours and HP says you can get 0-90 percent charge in just 90 minutes. The devices are expected to use a 10 nm manufacturing process and the x20 LTE modem.

This means we're now seeing a laptop capable of 1Gbps speeds, which are three to seven times faster than your broadband speeds at home, depending on where you live. "The Envy x2 will have a Surface-like detachable keyboard and will be just 0.3" (6.9 mm) thick.

The model with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage runs to $799.

The Envy x2 has a 12in screen with a 1920x1280 resolution and supports stylus input. Unlike other Windows 10 PCs, you never have to wait for it to wake up.
