2 arrested in shooting outside Graham-Kapowsin High School

Troyer told Seattle Times the students who were present at school remained with the deputies until the danger cleared.

Sheriff's deputies in Washington state are searching for two teenagers suspected of shooting a pair of male students near a high school in the small city of Graham on Tuesday. However, there were no signs of the shooters being on campus.

The Bethel School District said Graham-Kapowsin High School would have extra security on-hand on Wednesday as well as additional counselors. Authorities say the shooting might have been gang related. One ran into the parking lot and the other ran into a locker room bathroom. Shots were reportedly fired on the Eustis Hunt Rd. side of the campus.

It's unclear what the students' conditions are, but they've been taken to Tacoma General Hospital.

The sheriff's office said the suspects were described as multiple black males, and that they fled in a green vehicle, possibly a Chevy Impala.

The Pierce County Sheriff's Department reported that two students. But three other nearby schools were locked down as a precaution.

"I was actually kinda calm because we've been trained since really early on to know what to do in these situations", said Graham-Kapowsin ninth-grader James Baker.

Troyer also clarified that it appears the shooting happened across the street from the school, about 30 to 40 yards away and over a fence.

Troyer said the Sheriff's Office obtained a search warrant to enter the home where the second suspect was arrested.

The high school was put in a lockdown that lasted for almost four hours before it was lifted at 6:15 p.m. and school buses began taking students home.

Deputies were securing the campus, and said the students in lockdown were safe.

The school district also tweeted that their thoughts and prayers are with everyone who were involved in the shooting and added they were proud of how their students and staff reacted to the incident.
