Trump attacks reporter over already-deleted crowd size tweet

President Trump put a Washington Post reporter on blast for shared a misleading photo on Twitter suggesting his rally in Florida attracted a low turn-out on Friday.

Dignified! An easy way to support Weigel's work while he's singled out for Trump's Two Minutes Hate is by buying his book, The Show That Never Ends: The Rise and Fall of Prog Rock, which has nothing to do with Donald Trump, Roy Moore, or online thuggery. I deleted the photo after @dmartosko [the Daily Mail's David Martosko] told me I'd gotten it wrong.

The photo Weigel published was taken before the Trump rally began.

The trouble started early Saturday morning after Trump tweeted that the arena he had spoken in the night before in Pensacola "was packed to the rafters", the Washington Post reports. He deleted the tweet after learning that the venue had not yet filled up. "And when he was later addressed by the president on Twitter, he promptly apologized for it".

But the Post wasn't the only news organization to suffer Trump's ire on Saturday.

However, his mea culpa is not enough for Trump, who wants Weigel fired, in the president's efforts to expose what he considers unfair reporting by the mainstream media. Real photos now shown as I spoke. They were caught red handed, just like lonely Brian Ross at ABC News (who should be immediately fired for his "mistake").

'Packed to the rafters, ' Weigel quipped of his phony photo. "Was confused by the image of you walking in the bottom right corner", he tweeted.

The journalist defended his newspaper, pointing out the tweet from his personal account was "not a Washington Post story".

Weigel quickly deleted the tweet after another journalist pointed out his error, but a screenshot of the original tweet made it to Trump (or a member of his staff) regardless. "Very fair to call me out".

During the Pensacola rally, the President once again went on the offensive over the media, asking the crowd: "Did you see all the corrections the media has been making?" After images circulated on social media in January that showed fewer people at his inauguration than former president Barack Obama's, then-press secretary Sean Spicer was dispatched to tell the press, "This was the largest audience to ever witness an inauguration - period - both in person and around the globe".
