Woman Allegedly Kicked Off Plane After Breast-Feeding Her 2-Year-Old

Mei Rui, a cancer researcher and Grammy Award-nominated pianist, said she had a schedule to fly from Houston to NY to attend a conference on cancer research projects. She claims she was trying to settle the toddler while the cabin doors were still open, and says the flight attendants told her stop and put the baby in his seat, denying her request for a few minutes to finish breastfeeding.

"I asked for just a couple more minutes to finish because if he woke up at that point he would have made a lot of noise", Rui said. Flight attendants instructed her to stop and get the child into his seat. Barton said the plane passengers were stuck on a three-and-a-half-hour delay when Rui's child began to cry. By that point, Rui had stopped feeding her son and he was crying, as she had feared, but he was properly buckled in his own seat, as they had asked. Rui can be heard asking what she did wrong, flight attendants say she didn't comply with instructions.

"Every parent with a young child can image, you don't want to be that parent on the plane", she told The Washington Post. "If they had shown a little compassion, it wouldn't have happened, they didn't have to let it escalate". I'm glad your plight is getting some media attention", and, "I am very sorry you had to go through this, Mei! It was humiliating to be chased off a plane we had never been through anything close to this. "We had never been through anything close to this".

In a tweet, a man claiming to be Rui's husband said that Spirit was not taxing when his wife was removed.

When Rui asked which part of the crew's instruction she was not compliant with, the representative refused to answer. The Spirit Airlines plane, set to travel from her home in Houston to Newark, N.J., on Friday, had already been delayed, and the exhausted mother was just hoping her son would cooperate for the three-hour flight.

However, things got worse, said Rui.

In a statement to Houston's KHOU, Spirit stood by the decision to take Rui and her family off the plane. "We're a family of seniors and a mother and a baby, why did they have to treat us this way?" To ensure the safety of our guests and crew, FAA regulations and airline policies require all passengers stay seated and buckled during takeoff and landing. We reviewed multiple accounts from the crew and other guests sitting nearby and we apologize for any inconvenience caused by this issue.

It's also been a year filled with hardships for her and her family who lost their house and belongings to Hurricane Harvey, and are still in temporary housing.

"As a courtesy, we've issued a full refund to the customer in question", said Schuler.
