Derek Jeter defends Marlins' handling of Giancarlo Stanton trade

We think we got some good prospects in return, and now it is up to us as an organization to help develop them. Stanton will see his salary almost double to $25 million in 2018, the fourth season of his record 13-year, $325 million deal.

The New York Yankees lineup got deeper with the acquisition of Stanton and it appears that more hitters could be added in the coming days.

The Yankees won 91 games in the regular season and came within one win of the World Series in October, losing the final two games of the American League Championship Series at Houston.

During a half-hour conference call, Jeter tried to explain his thinking for trading Stanton, who controlled the process because he is owed $295 million over the next 10 years and could veto any trade. The deal is sure to get a legion of fans that already dislike the Yanks railing against Jeter sending Stanton to his old team. "We feel like we have a great, young team in place, and now you add the National League MVP, a guy that's obviously in the prime of his career, a guy that's coming off such an wonderful season".

On Friday, it was widely reported he would only agree to be moved to the Chicago Cubs, Astros, Dodgers and Yankees.

He knows NY isn't playing backup for Robin Hood anymore.

Jeter should reconsider because it was clear Stanton and his camp were not pleased with how this went down, from Jeter never making face-to-face contact with the slugger until last Tuesday and with the Marlins delivering an ultimatum soon after that if he did not accept a deal to either the Cardinals or Giants - who had trades in place to acquire Stanton - then he would be put in the gulag of having to spend the rest of his career as a Marlin. If Judge can hit 30 or so dingers, Stanton should more than make up for the difference. The Marlins warned Stanton that if he stayed, the team would be torn down around him.

The Yankees pulled it off, raiding their old captain's new team for a centerpiece ready for a change.

In 2017, when you thought of the New York Yankees, you probably thought of Aaron Judge.

As Brian Cashman twice referred to his Yankees as a "band of merry men", a smirk crept across the general manager's face.

Castro, who hit.300 with 16 home runs this year, could replace Gordon at second base - or might also be dealt by Miami because of his contract. The Yankees made a 10-year, $265 million commitment to Stanton, whose departure Jeter engineered as Miami's chief executive.

"I've read that but I don't know where we'd play those two bats", Dombrowski said.
