Ex-wife of National Basketball Association player Lorenzen Wright charged with first-degree murder

Ex-wife of National Basketball Association player Lorenzen Wright charged with first-degree murder

Police in Riverside County, California, arrested Sherra Wright-Robinson Friday night on a warrant in connection to the 2010 killing of her ex-husband, former National Basketball Association player Lorenzen Wright.

Marion told the newspaper that police told her that Sherra Wright would be charged with first-degree murder, as would Billy Ray Turner, who was indicted in Lorenzen Wright's death on December 5.

Police arrested Wright on Friday over the death of her ex-husband, which occurred more than seven years ago. He was shot multiple times.

Memphis Police say its gang unit received information about Wright's death in May or June of this year.

She was indicted on charges of conspiracy to commit murder, criminal attempted first degree murder, and first degree murder in the death of Lorenzen Wright. Turner has pleaded not guilty.

The specifics of the connection between Wright-Thompson and Turner haven't been reported, but Turner was apparently a deacon at a church in Shelby County, Tennessee, where Wright-Thompson was a member, and the motive may have included a $1 million life insurance policy. Rallings would not discuss the connection between Turner and Wright, but he said police were confident they knew each other. She agreed to a settlement in 2014 in a court dispute over how she spent the insurance money meant to benefit their six children, The Commercial Appeal has reported.

Wright-Robinson only added to the suspicion when she had spent nearly all of the money from the life insurance policy he took out on himself six months before his death. Former NBA players and friends, including Anfernee Hardaway and, attended a memorial service for Wright in the days after his body was found.

The 34-year-old who played for the Cleveland Cavaliers was last seen on July 18, 2010, as he left his ex-wife's home.

During the investigation police uncovered an emergency call placed from Wright's mobile phone in which 11 gunshots can be heard. She said police told her Sherra will be charged with murder; the same as Billy Turner. Wright's mother filed a missing person's report on July 22.

The body was found in a field near some woods in the height of summer, complicating the investigation because evidence had likely deteriorated in the heat.
