Donald Trump Slams Washington Post Judge Gorsuch Story as 'Fake News'

The#Washington Post reported late Monday night that Donald Trump was close to rescinding his nomination of#Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court earlier this year following the judge's criticism of the president [VIDEO].

"I never even wavered", Trump said of his decision to nominate Gorsuch. In conclusion, the commander in chief added, "The unnamed sources don't exist!"

Gorsuch's comments - and Bonjean's confirmation of them - appeared to be a strategic attempt by the White House to put some distance between Gorsuch, who was seeking a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court, and the President's caustic comments about the judiciary.

Since this episode, the president has pointed to Gorsuch's Senate confirmation as his major accomplishment since taking office.

The White House pushed back against The Post's report.

However, according to the 11 people familiar with the situation cited by The Post, it is not clear if Trump's alleged threat to pull the nomination was a serious suggestion or a moment of anger over Gorsuch's criticism. But if true, the report further bolsters former FBI Director James Comey's claim that Trump summoned him to the White House and repeatedly said he needed his "loyalty". "And you were so kind to recognize Mrs. Scalia, remember the justice [Scalia], and mention me". The judge sent the president a handwritten letter dated March 2, thanking him for the nomination and explaining how grateful he was, according to a copy obtained by The Post.

Trump nominated Gorsuch in January to fill the Supreme Court vacancy left by Justice Antonin Scalia, who died past year.

"My young little girls were cheering the TV!" he included.

McConnell made good on his promise to ensure the rest of the process went smoothly, and the Senate confirmed Gorsuch by a vote of 54-45 on April 7. On Twitter he accused Blumenthal (and thus Bonjean) of lying about what Gorsuch said, and attacked the senator for misrepresenting his Vietnam service years ago.

The Washington Post reported on Monday that Trump had suggested rescinding Gorsuch's nomination after Gorsuch criticized Trump's attacks on the federal judiciary. "You never know with these guys".
