OnePlus 5T Face Unlock will come to OnePlus 5, says company

But, now this very marquee feature might hurt OnePlus' reputation, as the company has been accused of patent infringement by biometric security firm SensibleVision. However, OnePlus 5T's Face Unlock feature is limited to software and will be available on a wider scale.

OnePlus has yet to fix the timeline of the OnePlus 5 receiving the update. There is a new design for Quick Settings, as well as a new design for Lift up display. For example, there is a new camera UI design and the Portrait Mode comes with a lovely effect. One of the more notable features is Face Unlock, which is an alternative way to unlock the phone aside from the fingerprint sensor. Well, even though there's no information on when the Face Unlock would make its way to the OnePlus 5, it's good to see OnePlus listening to its customers and deciding to include a feature which is now only available on the OnePlus 5T. That's especially true if you own the original OnePlus 5 smartphone-which came out all of five months before the OnePlus 5T and lacks the latter's Face Unlock feature. Made popular by tech giant Apple lately after it was introduced in the latest iPhone launches, the OnePlus 5T is one of the few models that have a comparable face unlock feature. Well, faster than Face ID on Apple's iPhone X. However, it's certainly not as secure as the Face ID, which is one of the reasons why it can not be used for payment authorization. We have basically told you all of the most important features coming in this update, but there are even more you will have to check out once you install the update. The technology is powered by software, unlike the FaceID in Apple iPhone X that uses a special TrueDepth camera system along with Apple's A11 Bionic chip and a neural engine to map a user's face. The update brings a slew of new features and improvements such as optimisation for shelf, new camera UI, beauty effect in Portrait mode, and alarm calendar. So have you received the over-the-air update to your OnePlus 5 device yet?
