Drugs, Gun, Teeth Found on Man Stopped at South Carolina Store

HOUSTON-An intoxicated man was taken into custody at a Houston hotel ahead of New Year's Eve festivities Sunday, police said. The man faces charges of unauthorized carrying of weapons.

Police spokesman Victor Senties says the man later told investigators he'd brought the guns into his room from his truck because he didn't want them to get stolen.

Once police arrived around 1:30 a.m., they searched the man's room on the 28th floor, the top floor of the hotel, where they found the weapons and ammo cache.

The man, who had not yet been identified by police, was initially going to be arrested for disorderly conduct after he drunkenly refused to leave the hotel's bar, according to the Houston Chronicle. They seized an AR-15, a shotgun, a handgun and ammunition, Lt. Gordon Macintosh said.

Senties says investigators don't believe the man intended "to use the weapons or to cause any kind of issue".

Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo tweeted earlier Sunday that the situation at the hotel had been "contained" and authorities weren't aware of any specific threats to the city.

The Hyatt is preparing its own New Years Eve celebration at the hotel with a 50,000 balloon drop at the stroke of midnight, its website said.

Police are still investigating the incident.
