Trump's corrupt media awards: Why some pundits are angling to win

Late night hosts took advantage of Trump's latest invention to poke fun at the president - and put themselves up for the honor, of course.

"I will be announcing THE MOST DISHONEST & CORRUPT MEDIA AWARDS OF THE YEAR on Monday at 5:00 o'clock", Trump tweeted.

The US President also indicated what kind of award categories the public can expect to see. It's more like that wrestling video in which Trump body-slams a guy with a CNN head-something that will excite his base, which already distrusts the press and loves the president's media-bashing.

The "Fake News Awards", as Trump calls it, are going to "the most corrupt & biased of the Mainstream Media".

The President's announcement comes as his administration is dealing with significant allegations from journalist Michael Wolff's book Fire and Fury, detailing Mr Trump's first year in the White House. "Stay tuned!" he tweeted. The book raised questions about Trump's mental fitness, and in former White House chief strategist Stephen Bannon said he thought the 2016 Trump Tower meeting between Donald Trump Jr. and a Russian lawyer was "treasonous".

Trevor Noah's "Daily Show" also has a for-your-consideration graphic on its Twitter feed.

And, yes, we are actually talking about a Fake News Awards ceremony that has been created by the leader of the free world.

The ad features show host Noah, who is a South African comedian, actor and political commentator, along with quotes from the New York Post, Fox News's Fox and Friends, and Breitbart News.
