Rahul Gandhi route changed in Amethi amid BJP protests

Excited with Gandhi's first visit to UP as Congress chief, party workers and sympathisers allegedly put up several posters, some of which showed him as Krishna and ridiculing PM Modi.

"We did not allow Rahul Gandhi to pass through the troubled Gauriganj-Musafirkhana route in view of the palpable tension there", Additional SP B.C. Dubey said.

Supporters of the ruling BJP and Congress clashed during the visit of Congress president Rahul Gandhi here on Monday.

The minister claimed that Rahul's first visit to Uttar Pradesh as the Congress chief had proved to be a flop show.

Former Congress legislator Akhilesh Pratap Singh alleged that the BJP was trying to disrupt the felicitation function of Mr Gandhi.

Behind the posters is a local Congressman, Abhay Shukla. "Police is investigating the matter and action will be taken against the guilty", he said.

Taking a dig at the Congress chief, Sharma said that Rahul Gandhi was suffering from attention seeking disorder, and was disappointed by the continuous shrinking mandate and electoral defeats. He was given a warm welcome by UPCC President Raj Babbar, senior party leaders and hundreds of workers at the Amausi Airport in Lucknow from where he went by road to Amethi.

On Monday, as Rahul drove through Amethi, a minivan right behind his vehicle carried a huge hoarding calling him "Pandit Rahul Gandhi".

Heated arguments between Police officials and Amethi MLC Deepak Singh during the clashes were witnessed. On Monday it occurred at Salon. "Not just potato farmers, vegetable growers, mint producers and cane farmers would have also benefited from the project that could have given employment to 10,000 people", Rahul said.
