Steve Bannon to face House Russia investigators Tuesday

Former chief White House strategist Steve Bannon is to appear before the House Intelligence Committee this week, after suffering an extraordinary public break with President Trump. It was unclear, however, whether Mr Bannon will be forced to testify.

Bannon, who joined the Trump campaign in August of 2016, brandished the Trump Tower meeting as "treasonous", according to Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House.

"Bannon is said to have described as "treasonous" a meeting Donald Tump Jr held in NY with a Russian lawyer during the 2016 presidential election campaign".

Bannon also said he assumed Trump Jr. delivered information about the meeting to Trump, despite denials from the two, and downplayed the likelihood of illegal coordination with Russian Federation while saying there was dread that Mueller's investigation could turn up something else nefarious, such as money laundering.

Michael Wolff, author of Fire And Fury: Inside The Trump White House, called the US President a man who is stepping into history as the greatest liar that there has ever been. He was also not present for the controversial firing of Mr Trump's former Federal Bureau of Investigation director, James Comey.

"As a longtime staffer of Donald Trump, you have been involved publicly and behind the scenes on several issues of public importance", Feinstein wrote.

"I'm going to answer every question", Lewandowski said.

A spokesman for Mueller's office declined comment.

Bannon also told Wolff that he believed that Mueller's investigation would eventually focus on money laundering.

He and Trump's son-in-law have never seen eye to eye; their White House feuds were a poorly kept secret, and following his ouster, Bannon has given numerous interviews knocking Kushner, including one to my colleague Gabriel Sherman in which he questioned Kushner's maturity level. Lewandowski was still on the Trump campaign at the time of the June 2016 meeting between top Trump campaign officials and a Russian lawyer who promised dirt on Hillary Clinton, though Lewandowski was not at the meeting. Six days later, Bannon stepped down from his post as executive chairman at Breitbart News.

The House Intelligence Committee is speeding toward a conclusion of its interviews in its Russian Federation investigation. Earlier in 2017, the Federal Bureau of Investigation briefed Hicks that Russian operatives had tried to reach her during the presidential transition, the Times reported, citing people familiar with events. The special counsel is reportedly preparing to interview Mr Trump as well.
