Flashpoint To Be Directed By John Daley and Jonathan Goldstein

Variety reports Flashpoint will be directed by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, known for recently writing Spider-Man: Homecoming. By bringing in the duo, DC seems to be leaning toward a bit more comedy, given Ezra Miller's Flash was the stand-out comedic role of Justice League. We don't know yet just how the film will fit into the post-Justice League timeline, but rumors persist that it will be something of a soft reboot for the universe, perhaps offering an opportunity to recast Batman or other central characters.

Variety's director negotiation news is unconfirmed, since Warner Bros. declined to comment.

Initially, Flashpoint had a 2018 release date, but that was scrapped due to a combination of Miller having to film the Harry Potter-verse Fantastic Beasts sequels, as well as WB's DC Comics Films division going through several shakeups in their upper order. DC and Warner Bros. are now gearing up for the standalone release of The Flash's fellow "Justice League" teammember "Aquaman".

The upcoming standalone Flash film has been a game of musical chairs of directors for the past couple years.

The solo Flash movie is based on the Flashpoint comic book series, released in 2011, and written by DC Comics chief creative officer and DC Films co-head Geoff Johns.

Interestingly, WB also asked Batman actor Ben Affleck if he would like to direct Flashpoint before setting on Daley and Goldstein. They were also on the shortlist to direct Spider-Man: Homecoming which earned more than 880 million dollars worldwide.

In Flashpoint, Barry Allen (Flash) finds himself in a world full of changes both big and small - and only he is aware of what's happened. Thomas Wayne lives on to take up the Bat mantle and Bruce is killed in the alley.
