U.S. to continue military training in Pakistan

U.S. to continue military training in Pakistan

Briefing reporters after returning from a UN Security Council visit to Afghanistan, she said the Afghanistan government has asked the 15-member powerful wing of the world body to step up pressure on Pakistan.

Wells said: "It is inaccurate to say that the Taliban have occupied 43 per cent of Afghanistan's territory; they have occupied only 12 per cent territory of Afghanistan".

The Taliban have quietly sent political negotiators to Pakistan from its Qatar-based office amid a new diplomatic push for encouraging peace talks between parties to the Afghanistan war. They give safe haven to the terrorists we hunt in Afghanistan, with little help.

This is the strongest attack that has come from the USA president.

He also stressed that Pakistan could no more host millions of Afghan refugees.

"They continue to make 10 steps forward, and with Pakistan they feel like they continue to take steps backward", she said.

Haley did not specify what measures the UN Security Council could take to pressure Pakistan, but it does have the power to impose sanctions.

According to a VOA report quoting local media, a three-member Taliban delegation headed by Shahabuddin Dilawar, who is also a senior member of the Doha office, is now in Islamabad. Islamabad denies this and accuses the United States of disrespecting its vast sacrifices in fighting terrorism.

Both sides officially denied holding any talks.

Reuters reported that the Taliban's Haqqani network last week released 14 captured Afghan Army soldiers in the eastern province of Paktia as a goodwill gesture ahead of the talks.

It is yet not clear if the talks had any outcome or not but Monday's visit by Taliban delegation to Islamabad followed an unofficial meeting organized in Turkey.
