Lorde not performing at Grammys because she wasn't offered solo spot

Lorde's Melodrama was one of 2017's best works of music, something the Grammys acknowledged with a nomination for Album of the Year at tonight's 2018 Grammy Awards.

Lorde won't perform at the Grammys because she wasn't offered a solo spot, according to USA media reports.

A source told the publication that she turned down an offer to take part in a joint performance of the late singer's "American Girl".

In addition, the "Greenlight" singer also pulled the plug on the Grammy red carpet according to a new report from TMZ.

TMZ reports the two-time Grammy award victor, who's the only female nominated for Album of the Year, felt insulted after only being offered the option to perform as part of the late Tom Petty tribute.

Lorde was a huge hit when she attended her first Grammys in 2014.

It's interesting because sources say the other 4 nominees, all men, got offers to perform their own tracks solo, and while Jay-Z declined, the other 3 nominees, Bruno Mars, Childish Gambino and Kendrick Lamar are all slated to perform. If this is the case, she would have also been the only AOTY candidate not performing her own music.

She circled a section which reads: "Of the 899 people nominated in the last six Grammy Awards, 9 percent were women".

The Grammys signify a time of recognizing the year's most creative and boundary-pushing acts, however, the awards ceremony hasn't quite hit the mark when it comes to placing an emphasis on gender equality during this year's event.
