Rep. Ros-Lehtinen Rips Gosar's Call to Arrest Illegals at SOTU

Rep. Ros-Lehtinen Rips Gosar's Call to Arrest Illegals at SOTU

The move is seemingly in response to a decision by Democrats in Congress to invite some beneficiaries of the Deferred Action on Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, under which those brought to the USA illegally as children are offered protections.

He also called for the arrest of anyone using fraudulent social security numbers and identification to pass through security. Without action from Congress, the roughly 700,000 recipients of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program would no longer be shielded from deportation.

A number of lawmakers have already announced that they have invited DACA recipients and others who have been touched by immigration.

A spokesperson for Capitol Police did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Tuesday. "Any illegal aliens attempting to go through security, under the pretext of any invitation or otherwise, should be arrested and deported".

They said they weren't going to be scared off by the congressman.

This morning, Arizona Congressman Paul Gosar threatened DREAMers just so he could score a minute of air time on Fox News and appease Trump's base. She worked in canneries and in the fields, he said; today Reyes works as a "bilingual eligibility specialist", helping elderly and disabled people figure out if they qualify for government services like Medicaid and food stamps. Antonio and I will not let Gosar intimidate us. "It shows a really disgusting notion of what his power is ― or what he thinks it is".

"What he said is outside the circle of decency in terms of members of Congress", Representative Nancy Pelosi of California, the House Democratic leader, told reporters.

Gosar's tweet provoked an outcry from congressional Democrats.

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) said during the press conference that lawmakers were doing their "duty" and guests should not be denied the ability to participate.

A lack of support from Speaker Paul Ryan makes it highly unlikely Gosar's suggestion will be taken up, even if it might interest Sessions. Rep. Joe Crowley (D-NY) retweeted Gosar Tuesday afternoon, adding, "What's wrong with you?"

However, the response to Gosar's statement on Twitter from the left was swift.
