Met Office warns of ice and snow

Weather warnings for snow and ice have been issued for much of Scotland overnight with travel disruption possible.

Meanwhile, a yellow wind warning - which is in place for Munster, Leinster and Galway - comes into effect at 3pm on Saturday, with gusts of up to 110km/hr expected.

Connacht, Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal fall under the yellow rainfall warning as accumulations of up to 35mm expected.

Tomorrow Sunday will be a cold, bright day with sunny spells.

"A covering of snow as we begin Sunday across the higher grounds of the north of England and central and southern Scotland".

There will be fresh to strong, gusty west to northwest winds with temperatures of 9C to 12C degrees, the higher temperatures in the south of the country.

But today, temperatures in the day will reach a maximum of around 9 degree Celsius, with a few outbreaks of rain from the west this morning.

On Sunday night, wintry showers will continue with accumulations of snow in places. Temperatures are expected to plummet to -3 degrees.

"This will result in falling temperatures and icy patches are likely to develop on some untreated surfaces, especially where any wintry showers lead to wash off of previous treatment". On Tuesday night, frost and ice will develop for a time.

Wednesday morning will be wet with rain and sleet, heavy at times.

According to Met Éireann, wind, rain and snow have been predicted for the coming hours.

The longer-term forecast is for it to be cold, with ongoing wintry showers.
